We were reading the Odyssey just last month, and on the day we read the book where Nausicaa finds Odysseus and brings him to the palace to seek the queen, my teacher brought up the term “deuteropotmos,” and defined it as “the second fated one, a man who  ”died” once and returned to the world of the living.”

She then mentioned that the traditional way in which a dead man could return to the living was by throwing himself in the lap of a female figure, generally someone like the head of the house

Femininity of the figure aside, that is honestly the first thing that came to mind when I saw this. I don’t know when this picture is meant to take place, no context is provided. But the first thing I saw was some version of The Empty House, complete with symbolic return from the dead.
